IDA Ireland, the government agency responsible
for attracting inward investment, announced today that it had helped secure 70
individual projects to date in 2013, compared to 61 at this stage last year. Of
the 70 projects, 35 have come from companies deciding to invest in Ireland for
the first time. In the 2012 Annual Report issued today, the estimated number of
full-time jobs at 90% of total supported jobs in client companies of 152,785, at
138,000 is the same level as in 2001.
The agency said that it is expected the 70 projects supported by the Department
of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland in the first half of this
year will lead to the creation of 7,000 gross job this year and over the next
3-5 years as the companies implement their investments.
Project number comparisons do not account
for the value or impact of investments.
2012 Annual Report [pdf] shows that in the 1,033 IDA client companies, there
were 6,300 net jobs added in 2012. Job losses at IDA client companies were the
lowest for a decade.
The number IDA client companies investing more
than €100,000 per annum in R&D was at 293 -- 28% of the total.
