Dan O’Brien has
resigned as economics editor of The Irish Times and plans to write for
Independent Newspapers, among other other responsibilities.
He joined The Irish Times in June 2010 and previously was a senior economist and
editor at the Economist Intelligence Unit, a unit of The Economist Newspaper
O'Brien will be taking on the roles of chief economist at the Institute for
International and European Affairs and senior adjunct research fellow at
University College Dublin’s School of Politics and International Relations.
From December he will write regularly for Independent Newspapers, including a
general column in the Sunday Independent, a weekly economics column each Friday
in the Irish Independent and contributing to the newspaper as economics analyst.
O'Brien's book "Ireland, Europe and the World: Writings on a New Century" was
published in October 2009.
