Irish Economy: There was a fall of 12% in new
private cars licensed in February 2013 according to the CSO.
There were 9,671 new private cars licensed in
February 2013, compared with 10,993 in February 2012, a decrease of 12%. The
number of new goods vehicles licensed in February 2013 was 1,120, down 23% from
The licensing figures also show that:
- In February 2013, the total number of all
vehicles licensed was 16,177 compared with 17,608 in the corresponding month
last year - a decrease of 8.1%.
- The total number of all new vehicles
licensed during February 2013 was 11,518 compared with 13,397 during the
same month in 2012 - a decrease of 14%.
- In February 2013, the total number of used
(imported) private cars licensed was 3,717 compared with 3,312 during
February 2012 - an increase of 12.2%.
- In February 2013, of the 9,671 new private
cars licensed, 2,509 (25.9%) were petrol and 7,087 (73.3%) were diesel.
- The highest number of new private cars
licensed in February 2013, classified by make, was Volkswagen (1,215)
followed by Nissan (985), Ford (933) and Toyota (918).
