The International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), Dublin.

French insurance group AXA Global Distributors will create 200 'high value' jobs in Dublin over the next 3 years. Recruitment has already commenced and it is estimated that 100 of the posts will be filled within the next 12 months.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen announced today that the jobs will be created at the Dublin HQ include positions in Marketing, Finance, Information Technology, Telephone Sales, Product Development, Customer Services and Policy Administration.

He said AXA, a household name in Ireland, is already a very important source of employment in this country, employing approximately 1000 people. It is great to see it expanding its workforce: Horizon 2020, IDA's strategy for the coming decade, highlights the importance of employment intensive services and today's announcement mirrors this focus. "The decision by a highly respected and successful global financial services player to locate this important new subsidiary business in Ireland is a very welcome endorsement of our strong reputation as a prime location for strategic activities," Cowen said.

This important win for Ireland is fully in keeping with the Government's policy on building the Smart Economy. It shows that we can provide the necessary skills, pro-business policies and regulatory environment to help world leading companies to grow their international business.

Cowen said the overall resilience of the international financial services industry in Ireland is a source of great encouragement in itself. The establishment of the IFSC back in 1987 was a bold and innovative move at another difficult time for our country. It turned out to be a remarkable success, with over 25,000 people currently employed, not counting all the spinoff jobs. "I would like to take the opportunity today to welcome the creation by the industry of a new body, IFSC Ireland, to lead a renewed drive to exploit its full potential and to create new jobs and generate economic activity. I would also like to wish John Bruton the very best in carrying out his important new role as Chairman of IFSC Ireland," he said.
