The CSO reported today that trips abroad by Irish residents in the first four months of 2009 were down by only 10.5% to 2,119,200 compared to the same period in 2008. Overseas trips to Ireland fell by 6.3% to 2,010,000.
Overseas trips to Ireland increased slightly to 607,800 in April 2009 from the same month in 2008 and this would appear to reflect the fact that Easter occurred in April of this year compared to March of last year. Trips to Ireland by residents of Great Britain fell by 9,800 (3.3%) to 291,400 and this was more than offset by an increase of 13,300 (6.5%) to 219,300 in trips by residents of Other Europe.
Trips abroad by Irish residents fell by 4.2% to 579,400 in April 2009 compared to April 2008.
