Revenue collects €18.7m in the final three months of 2008 from 89 defaulters

The Revenue today published its latest list of tax defaulters showing, that 89 individuals and companies made settlements almost €18.7m in the final three months of 2008.

Two of the settlements were for amounts over €1m, with Kerry-based building contractor Thomas Keane paying a total of almost €3.17m in tax, interest and penalties.

Takeaway food supplier, Achille Orlandi, based in Thurles, Co Tipperary, paid just over €1.7m.

Of the 89 settlements:

  • 8 settlements totalling €1.35 million relate to Bogus Non-Resident holders,
  • 26 settlements totalling €2.97 million relate to Revenue investigations into Offshore Funds and
  • 13 settlements totalling €5.96 million relate to Revenue’s Single Premium Insurance Products Cases.

The published settlements reflect a portion only of all Revenue audits and investigations concluded in the 3-month period to 31 December 2008. The total yield from Revenue audit and investigation programmes settled in the period 1 October 2008 to 31 December 2008 was *€145.2million.

John Connolly a building contractor of Glassnamullen in Bray made a settlement of €839,000. Rose Construction of the Rivervew Estate in Ballyvolane in County Cork made a settlement of €597,000 for under-declaration of VAT, PAYE and PRSI.

The wedding planners, Weddings by Franc of Fermoy in County Cork, made a settlement of more than €97,000 for under-declaration of corporation tax, PAYE and PRSI.

Former showjumper Thomas Wade, listed as a farmer and bookmaker, made a settlement of €225,000 for under-declaration of tax arising from a bogus non-resident account investigation by Revenue.

The entertainer Linda Martin, with an address at The Naul in County Dublin, made a small settlement of €750 for failure to lodge income tax returns.

*The total figure includes tax, interest and penalties.
