The CSO reported today that Irish public sector earnings increased 3.6% in the year to March and employment grew by 6,300.
Average weekly earnings up 3.6%
Average weekly earnings in the Public Sector (excluding Health) rose by 3.6% in the year to March 2008. The index of average earnings, which excludes some effects of changes in employment composition, rose by 4.0% for the same period.
Average weekly earnings rose by 4.2% in the year to December 2007 while the index of average earnings rose by 4.6% for the same period.
Employment up by 6,300 in year to March 2008
A total of 258,000 people were employed in the Public Sector (excluding Health) in March 2008 compared to 251,700 in March 2007.
In the year to March 2008 employment in Education increased from 97,700 to 101,400, a rise of 3,700.
Overall employment in the Public Sector was 368,300 in March 2008, an increase of 6,300 compared with March 2007.
Employment in the Health Sector decreased from 110,400 in March 2007 to 110,300 in March 2008, a slight decrease of 100.
