Enterprise Ireland says a net 8,476 jobs were added by client firms in 2014

Enterprise Ireland said today that 19,705 jobs were created by companies that were supported by Enterprise Ireland - an increase of a net 8,476 jobs when job losses are taken into account.

Enterprise Ireland is the State agency responsible for supporting Irish indigenous firms engaged in exporting.

The agency said that more than 180,000 people are employed in Enterprise Ireland supported companies, which is almost 10% of the employed workforce.

Last week it was announced that foreign firms a  added 15,012 new jobs in 2014, which resulted in an net rise of  7,131.

Richard Bruton, jobs minister, said: "This is the best performance in the history of the agency, and great credit is owed to Julie Sinnamon and her staff for this excellent performance."
