Irish Economy: In the period April – June 2013, the total number of trips to Ireland increased by 4.2% to 1,893,000 - - an overall increase of 75,700 compared to the same period twelve months earlier, according to the CSO today.
Trips by residents of North America to Ireland increased by 14.8% to 350,800. Trips by residents of European Countries other than Great Britain (Other Europe) increased by 4.9% to 705,200 while trips to Ireland from Other Areas increased by 5.9% to 110,100. Trips by residents of Great Britain decreased by 1.1% to 726,900. The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the period April - June 2013 increased by 1.4% to 1,752,400.
The total number of trips to Ireland increased by 5.4% for the period January - June 2013 when compared with the same period in 2012.
The total number of trips (Irish residents’ trips overseas plus trips to Ireland) in the period April to June 2013 increased by 2.8% to 3,645,400 when compared with the same period twelve months earlier. For the period April to June 2012, there was an annual decrease of 0.4% in the total number of trips taken when compared to the previous corresponding period. See tables 1 and 2.
