 Irish private cars licensed in November 2009 fell to 948 units

There were 948 new Irish private cars licensed in November 2009, compared with 1,174 in November 2008, a decrease of 19.3%, according to the CSO.

The number of new goods vehicles licensed in November 2009 was 476 compared with 983 in the corresponding month last year - - a decrease of 51.6%.

The vehicle licensing figures also show that:

  • In November 2009, the total number of all vehicles licensed was 6,302 compared with 8,708 during the same month in 2008 - a decrease of 27.6%.
  • The total number of all new vehicles licensed during November 2009 was 1,674 compared with 2,707 during the same month in 2008 - a decrease of 38.2%.
  • In November 2009, of the 948 new private cars licensed, 357 (37.7%) were petrol and 558 (58.9%) were diesel.
  • The highest number of new private cars licensed in November 2009, classified by make, was Ford (132) followed by Renault (95), BMW (94) and Opel (82).

The licensing figures refer to vehicles taxed for road use only and classified by taxation class. Complementary figures for vehicle registrations are available separately: Vehicles Registered
