Paul Rellis MD Microsoft Ireland
The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI) has announced the programme for its Annual Conference to be held in Galway in the Radisson SAS Hotel on 4th and 5th April.

Up to five hundred Chartered Accountants from all over Ireland are expected to converge in Galway for the event entitled 'The Challenges of Success'. This year’s event, sponsored by Eagle Star Life, publisher Lexis Nexis and software company Sage, is expected to be the largest ICAI Conference to date.

Reacting to popular feedback, the conference format will once again be divided into three separate streams: Practice, Business and Tax, designed to appeal to the working Chartered Accountant, regardless of the business sector they are acting in. Over the course of two days, over thirty speakers will address the conference.

Keynote speakers include Paul Rellis, Managing Director of Microsoft Ireland, who will discuss the challenges of maintaining inward investment and competing with new economies; Construction Industry Federation Chief Executive and former Minister Tom Parlon, who will provide an analysis of how changing economic landscape has affected the Irish Construction industry; and Jerry Kennelly of Stockbyte, describing the evolution from an owner-managed business to a multi-million asset.

Other key speakers include:

  • William Slattery, State Street International

  • Terry Prone, media commentator and business trainer

  • Conor Foley, Worldspreads

In addition, the results of the second quarter IIB / ICAI Business Sentiment Survey will be included in a presentation from Austin Hughes, Chief Economist, IIB Bank.

Commenting on the return of the conference to the ever-popular location of Galway, ICAI President, Vincent Sheridan, said: "Last year’s Conference in Belfast was the largest conference held by the Institute in a number of years and this year we plan to do even better. Chartered Accountants are now working in every area of business life. The diverse line up of high quality speakers this year reflects a stronger emphasis on practical and technical information. Our 2008 conference programme contains slots tailored to every need, and we believe it will be an unmissable event for CAs. "
